11 Plus Applications
11+ Procedure for Entry into Year 7 in September 2013
Phase One - June 2012 to 31st October 2012
The Eleven Plus selection procedure is designed to determine whether or not children in the autumn term of their final year at primary school are suitable for admission to a grammar school. Parents should note that meeting the academic requirements for entry to the School is not, in itself, a guarantee of an offer of a place.
Grammar schools are required to run their selection tests and notify parents of the results before parents make an application to their Local Authority for a secondary school place for their child. This means that parents must register their son for the Eleven Plus Test and following the release of the results, parents who wish to apply for a place at Bishop Wordsworth’s School must name BWS as one of their preferences on the LA Secondary Application Form.
Registering for the Eleven Plus Test prior to the Local Authority Application
Firstly a Registration form must be sent to BWS to register your son for the eleven plus test. This is essential for the administration of the test and also gives evidence for the application of our oversubscription criteria. The deadline for the BWS Registration Form to be returned is 7th September 2012.
From 4th June, you can obtain a Registration Form from BWS with a prospectus. To do so, please contact the School directly on 01722 424730 or via email to: cms@bws.wilts.sch.uk. The Registration Form will also be available to download from the website from 4th June. What happens next?
Parents who have completed and returned the BWS Registration Form, will receive details of the test approximately one week before the exam and their child will automatically be invited to sit the 11+.
If a child has a current statement of educational needs, speaks English as a Second Language or faces any other barrier to learning, whether medical or educational (eg Specific learning difficulties), or parents feel their son’s circumstances may affect his performance in the test, they can request that special consideration be given to him. Parents must complete the yellow Special Access arrangements form and return it with written evidence to the School by 4th July 2012. (Please see the Information Leaflet for Parents on 11+ Selection available below for full details).
The test itself will be held on the morning of Saturday 22nd September 2012.
